drift

poetry by megan harmer

1992

to be like a leaf

swimming in the breeze

moving with the wind
in a montionless ease

stay by my side
and well float together

jump in my boat
and well drift together

i could watch the world
go by with you

I tell you no lies

nor sell you no pain

for a day is not an eternity

and a night has no length

I really should go now

but I not ready yet

I know you’ll always reappear
in my memory lane

the leaves are now dust particles

and the weather has turned cold

I really have to go now

my friend, i’ll be drifting next to your soul.
